Museum seeks B Company tales
Rotorua Museum wants to showcase the stories of the area’s Māori Battalion soldiers when it reopens in 2025.
Clark Pirika, the kaitohu whakahono Te Arawa partnership adviser for Rotorua Lakes Council, says almost 1000 men from Rotorua, Taupo and the wider Bay of Plenty fought in N Company.
He says the call has gone out to whanau for untold stories of that time.
“The kaupapa matua really is to make sure we are telling their stories and there’s an opportunity for the whanau to tell the stories of their tupuna – not only their exploits across the seas but there would have also been a heck of a lot of mahi undertaken back home,” Mr Pirika says.
