Third Covid wave astarting
The Ministry of Health is expecting Covid numbers to keep rising – but it isn’t sure for how long or by how much.
Thirty five people died of Covid last week, compared with 13 the week before.
John Whanga, the ministry’s deputy director general Maori, says there’s no let up yet.
“It’s likely over the next few weeks cases, hospitalisations and mortality will continue to increase to a new peak of the third wave. We’re certainly expecting some increase over the next few weeks. We’re just not sure of the size and scale,” he says.
The ministry’s advice hasn’t changed – wash your hands, wear a mask if feeling unwell and stay home if you’re sick.
