Qrious scholarships for Māori in artificial intelligence
Spark’s AI and data analytics specialist division Qrious has launched a training initiatives including $1 million of scholarships for women, Māori and Pasifika.
Data innovation head Evan Wilson says the Qrious Data Academy aims to create a pipeline of local talent into high-demand technology careers.
The scholarship programme will provide one year of on-the-job training, mentoring, and a pathway to permanent employment for up to 20 people a year in Auckland and Wellington.
The wider Data Academy programme includes opportunities outside the scholarships set up for women, Māori, and Pasifika, meaning anyone can apply.
Less than 3 percent of the tech workforce are Pacific people, just 4 percent are Māori, and 27 percent are women.
