Absentees eased back into school life
Northland schools are trying to ease more than 800 tamariki back into the classroom.
That’s the number who responded to the Let’s Get to School campaign targeting pupils who were slow to return after the Covid lockdowns.
Te Tai Tokerau Principals Association president Pat Newman says many need to be helped back into a regular school routine.
“If they’re not helped and our schools don’t actually adjust and the communities adjust to the fact these kids will be coming back in not used to being in schools, behind, and we have to awhi them in and welcome them in so they don’t just pack up and go out next week,” he says.
Mr Newman says there are more children still to come back.
