Uffindell secrecy National butt-covering
The Minister for Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence says the report which purportedly exonerated National Tauranga MP Sam Uffindell of threatening behaviour towards a university flatmate needs to be made public.
Marama Davidson says in suppressing the report by Kings Counsel Maria Dew, National is labelling the woman who came forward a liar.
That’s the opposite of the system she is trying to create.
“This action and behaviour of the National Party is contravening all of the hard work people have been doing at the front line for victims and survivors for decades and especially the work I am trying to lead across government to send a really clear message we need our systems and our processes to be victim centred, survivor led. Their process has been one to cover their butts, that is what they are doing. It is not a victim/survivor-led process,” Ms Davidson says.
Mr Uffindell was welcomed back into the National Party caucus on Monday with leader Chris Luxon saying the investigation could not substantiate the allegations made against him.
