Wharehinga distribution site for Māori literature

The editor of a new website for Māori writers says should make Māori literature more accessible for readers and publishers alike.
Like the raised storehouse it is named after, the Creative New Zealand-funded Wharehinga will store information for and about contemporary Māori writers including short stories, poetry, fiction and non-fiction books.
Paula Morris says she also wants to hear from unpublished Māori writers so their details can go into the database.
“Too many people have said to me, ‘I’ve got this but nobody wants to publish Māori work, The absolute opposite is true. Publishers are really interested. Journals and magazines are really interested. It’s got to be good of course but we have a lot of really great emerging Maori writers out there who could be getting their work around,” she says.
Paula Morris is encouraging people with information on writers or writing kaupapa to contact to the website.
