Māori ward councillors elected unopposed

The first Māori councillors for the next three years are now known, with several being the only ones nominated for their seats.
For Waikato Regional Council, Tipa Mahuta and Kataraina Hodge were reelected unopposed.
Thompson Hokianga will represent the Māui ki te Tonga Māori constituency of Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, but there will be an election for the northern Māui ki te Raki Māori constituency.
Marama Tuuta was unopposed for the Masterton/Whakaoriori Māori ward on Masterton District Council.
Clive Tongaawhikau was elected to Stratford District Council’s Maori ward.
And in Palmerston North City Council’s new Te Pūao Māori ward, Debi Marshall-Lobb and Roly Fitzgerald, both from Rangitāne o Manawatū, were the only candidates for the two seats.
