All Black’s Ellis Park win vindication for Foster
Veteran sportscaster Ken Laban says All Black’s coach Ian Foster was vindicated by the victory against South Africa at Ellis Park over the weekend.
New Zealand’s lead at halftime and a late charge stretched the lead to 35-23.
Mr Laban says the coach can breathe a sigh of relief after a week of criticism over losses to Ireland and South Africa.
He says in the modern era teams are under immense pressure to win, especially the All Blacks who boast an almost 80 percent win rate, and footage of every game is intensely scrutinised by opponents.
“So trying to come up with new ways and new tricks and new see set plays to gain that all-important edge over your opponent, in the professional era that’s getting harder and harder, so Ian Foster deserves to be retained to see out his context until the Rugby World Cup in 2023,” Mr Laban says.
He’s impressed by the support Ardie and Julian Savea are giving Ian Foster and his whānau amid tough social media backlash.
