K’Rd embraces Matariki spirit

Karangahape Road is promising a big night on Thursday to celebrate Matariki.
There’s a progressive street-wide party from 5pm until late featuring live music, art, fashion, food and drink and other sensory delights.
Te Karanga a Hape organiser Anya Vitali says it’s the perfect place for the midwinter festival.
“Pre-European that area has been a real walking, meeting, connecting spot, so it’s only appropriate that Matariki up there is a great spot to celebrate,” she says.
The theme for the first Te Karanga a Hape festival is Kāhui Wāhine or Sisterhood, celebrating the mana of wahine and honouring Matariki and the stars in the cluster as they begin their annual journey across the heavens.
