Kapa haka hot take for Cool It Down stars
Perth-based band Coterie plan to release a reo Māori version of their hit Cool It Down.
The band of brothers – Tyler, Joshua, Brandford and Conrad Fisher from Ngāi Te Rangi, Te Aupouri and Ngāpuhi – have just completed an Australian tour supporting Six60.
Lead singer Tyler Fisher says the connection with the Kiwi band is opening doors, and it’s also opening their eyes to how they can use indigenous culture.
“Something that’s amazing that we got to see in Oz is they’re bringing kapa haka and stuff to an incredible platform and it’s enabling the Aboriginal a bit more pride to be performing their culture as well and that’s something that was amazing to be part of,” he says.
The te reo Māori version of Cool It Down should be out in six weeks, and Coterie will join Six60 in its summer tour of Aotearoa.
