Nanaia sees reshuffle as vote of confidence

Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta says the promotion of Māori in the cabinet reshuffle is a vote of confidence from the Prime Minister against a cacophony of critics.
Ms Mahuta herself has been subject to recent attacks.
Labour has its largest ever Māori caucus, but it can be hard to reflect that in cabinet positions.
“There’s a concerted effort out there among some parts of society and certainly political commentary, media commentary, to not see this talent not reflected in our Government,” she says.
In the reshuffle brought on by the resignation of Kris Faafoi, Nanaia Mahuta was given a new associate, Wairarapa MP Kieran McAnulty, to help her with the local government portfolio and in particular the water infrastructure reform.
