Putea for takatāpui projects
The Burnett Foundation Aotearoa wants to build its partnership with Maori.
The foundation, previously known as the New Zealand Aids Foundation, has established a new Hononga Takatāpui fund to support groups, individuals and legal entities who support takatāpui communities.
Groups can apply for up to $10, 000.
Marketing team leader Ciarin Butler Smith says the foundation is committed to autonomy for Māori within the takatāpui community.
“We are putting the responsibility of what that fund is used for in the hands of Maori communities rather than having an organisation like Burnett Foundation dictate that ourselves,” he says.
AIDS-related deaths and diagnosis are very low in Aotearoa and the change in name both honours Aids Foundation co-founder the late Bruce Burnett as well as makes the service more accessible for those living with HIV.
