Tūturu Pāoa keep up Waiheke marina fight
The chair of Ngāti Pāoa Trust Board says Auckland Council needs to be held to account for allowing a marina at Waiheke to proceed against the wishes of tangata whenua.
The trust board has filed with the Court of Appeal to overturn the consent.
Danella Roebeck says the council wrongly approved the consent based on the sign-off of the interim post-settlement governance entity, the Ngāti Pāoa Iwi Trust.
“The mandated body for (the Resource Management Act) and the (Local Government Act) was Ngāti Pāoa Trust Board so there is a big question mark and we are certainly not protesters. We are just fighting for the right to look after our taonga as kaitiaki of Waiheke Island, tūturu Pāoa,” she says.
