Māori business needs health check
There’s hope today’s Budget will deliver resources to allow the rollout of a Māori enterprise resilience strategy.
Dale Stephens, the director of Māori partnerships at New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, says a number of agencies led by Te Puni Kōkiri came up with the strategy after looking at what Māori social and commercial enterprises need to survive and thrive after Covid-19.
He says it’s being pitched as a health Budget, and for Māori, that’s a broad term.
“Let’s think about health in that wider term and how can this Budget also support enterprise which supports our people in our communities and our regions, struggling businesses whether they are tourism, high spec manufacturing, export, whatever it might be, all businesses need support,” Mr Stephens says.
