Brown ready for nasty fix job
Auckland mayoral candidate Wayne Brown says the city is a big nasty mess – and he’s the one to fix it.
The engineers, surfer and former Far North mayor says outgoing mayor Phil Goff is leaving a massive hole in the city’s budget, and while its revenue dropped because of Covid the council did little to cut its costs during that period.
He says none of his rivals has the track record to manage the super city in its current state.
“I’ve sorted out messes. When the hospital got in trouble I went and fixed Auckland Hospital. It takes a special skill to do that and I thought, I can do this. If I don’t have a crack it, I will look back and think I should have. If people choose not op have you that’s their choice but at least I offered because I know how to fix big, nasty messes,” Mr Brown says.
If he gets into trouble he remembers the advice of the late Sir Graham Latimer – turn off the radio, turn off the tv, don’t read the newspaper and wait three days.
