Covid response compromised by let it rip lobby says Greens

Green Party MP Teanau Tuiono says the government has lost sight of communities most affected by Covid-19.
Yesterday Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced attendance limits for outdoor gatherings including concerts and sports events would be lifted from Friday midnight, and vaccine mandates would end on April 4 except for health, aged care, corrections and border workers.
Mr Tuiono says the Greens fear the health and wellbeing of vulnerable communities are being put at risk.
“I think there’s been too much focus on a lot of noise, particularly from the right, the whole ‘open it up and let it rip’ crowd, business and so on and so forth, but we needed to keep the focus on immuno-compromised whānau, on everything we need to do for our Māori whānau and Pasifika whānau, and on our school kids,” he says.
There were 18,423 new Covid cases reported today and 11 deaths.
There are 913 people in hospital, including 28 people in intensive care units.
