Covid hacks used for flu and measles
The Health Ministry’s deputy Director-General Māori says what was learned from the Covid-19 vaccination rollout is being used on other vaccination programmes.
John Whaanga says whānau need to be empowered with good information, and access to immunisation services needs to be made as easy as possible.
Mobile services developed for Covid-19 are also being used for the mumps, measles and rubella vaccine.
“We’ve expanded the national immunisation programme to include all immunisations, so what we are trying to provide is opportunities for whanau to access multiple immunisations rather than going for separate appointments, but we will have a particular focus on influenza, measles, mumps and rubella. We need to vary things – pop up clinics, drive-through vaccination stations, door to door, other innovative services,” Mr Whaanga says.
He says the vaccination programme is at a bit of a lull after two really hard years.
