Budget boost for driving licence training

The Government will spend $86 million over the next four years helping more people get driver licences.
The Budget 2022 commitment also includes reviewing the driver licensing regulatory framework to ensure it is fit for purpose.
Social Development and Employment Minister Carmel Sepuloni and Transport Minister Michael Wood say at least 64,000 New Zealanders will benefit from improved access to driver licensing testing and training.
Ms Sepuloni says a licence is a key requirement for up to 70 per cent of jobs, but the cost and other barriers disproportionally disadvantage Māori, Pacific peoples, sole parents and rural communities.
