Murihiku hit hard by road tragedy
Murihiku is in deep shock after the deaths of four rangatahi in a vehicle accident.
A utility carrying the teenagers collided with a concrete truck in wet conditions on Queen St, Invercargill, soon after 4 pm Friday.
Bluff 16-year-olds Konnor Steele, Indaka Rouse and Kyah Kennedy, and 17-year-old O Maruhuatau Otuwhare Tawhai from Invercargill died at the scene.
Te Tai Tonga MP Rino Tirikatene says the whanau pani have gathered at Invercargill’s Nga Hau e Wha Marae.
It’s a tragedy for the close-knit community.
“A lot of our whanau from the deep south were also out mutton birding at this time. For those whanau, it’s a world away from the terrible events happening on the mainland at this time,” Mr Tirikatene says.
