Luxon says grass greener elsewhere
National Party leader Chris Luxon is predicting an exodus of young New Zealanders when the borders open.
He points to what he calls a cost of living crisis with the consumer price index up almost 6 per cent but wage inflation only about 2.5 per cent.
He says young people say they can’t get ahead despite working hard, and they will look at opportunities in Australia or Canada or other places.
“I think the economic issues of people being able to survive and look after themselves and their family and feed their family is becoming really stark for people, it’s getting tough, getting really tough,” he says.
Chris Luxon says there’s no economic road map so people don’t know where the country is going.
