Free bus to mayoralty Molloy plan
Auckland mayoral candidate Leo Molloy is promising free public transport.
He says Christchurch and Dunedin have looked at free or subsidised transport, and when those studies are combined in the model with his proposed $3.50 an hour congestion charge for the central business district, there are massive efficiency games.
It’s also a win for families.
“Every household on average in south Auckland pays about $40 to $70 a week for public transport sot their children to go back and forth to school and so on so there is a massive opportunity here to put a dollar back in the pocket of the people who need it most in the south and free up the congestion problem in the city,” Mr Molloy says.
His transport plan also includes scrapping the $24 billion rapid rail project and ruling out a cycle lane across the Harbour Bridge.
