Manuel ready for new operating manual

The interim chief executive of the new Māori Health Authority says it’s a once in a generation chance to rewrite the system.
The appointment of Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki chief executive Riana Manuel to head Te Mana Hauora Māori was announced yesterday, along with the appointment of Counties Manukau DHB chief executive Fepulea’i Margie Apa to head Health New Zealand.
Ms Manuel, a registered nurse, says initiatives like Whānau Ora have shown there are different ways to achieve health for Māori.
“I’m always up for having good relationships, being collective in our approach, and most importantly listening to the voices of our whānau to bring whānau ora for all of our families. We all know that what works for Māori and Pasifika will work for everybody,” she says.
Ms Manuel says solutions lie not just in health but in linking it with housing, education and employment.
