Planning reduces risk of Springhill Covid outbreak

The Corrections Minister says the guard at Springhill Prison who tested positive for Covid 19 did everything right.
Kelvin Davis says when the man found out he had been at a location of interest he immediately got himself tested, even though he had been fully vaccinated.
He says Corrections has prepared for outbreaks even before Covid, when it was trying to keep measles out of prisons.
"This person has been isolating. Everybody who has been working with him is at home now isolating. The one unit he worked in is now isolated. Corrections has what they call a business continuity plan to make sure that business can continue even though there is a situation so they have been planning for this," Mr Davis says.
About 1000 prisoners have already been vaccinated, mainly in the south Auckland prisons, and almost all staff have also had jabs, although Corrections is unable to record individual staff medical histories.
