Kiwi guides need help as Kabul falls

A Vietnam veteran is drawing parallels between the fall of Saigon and the fall of Kabul – as he says he feels for the families of those soldiers who died in a war that now seems to have no point.
Hemana Waaka says whether the reason is given as stopping communism or stopping terrorism, New Zealand needs to think carefully before again being dragged into an American-led war.
He says New Zealand now has to do the right thing by those who worked with them in the country, including interpreters and others.
"Without those interpreters there they would have had no idea of what was going on internally, and if we didn't have interpreters to support our allied forces, our casualty list would have been treble if not more so it is only right that the New Zealand Government support the interpreters and their families," Mr Waaka says.
Hemana Waaka says the chaotic nature of the way the war is ending can be sheeted back to former US President Donald Trump, who is no military strategist.
