Maori fund gets Sharesies slot
People investing through the popular online platform Sharesies will now be able to put their money into a fund driven by Māori values.
Sharesies allows people to invest in fractions of shares or managed funds.
TAHITO founder Temuera Hall says his Te Tai o Rehua (Trans-Tasman) Fund invests in companies listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange and Australian Securities Exchange based on a mix of Māori ancestral knowledge; environmental, social and governance data; and financial analysis.
While it’s still small with just over $6 million under management, in its first two years the fund has outperformed its benchmarks.
"The fund did over 33 percent for the year to end of June. The index did 26 percent so the market had a strong year, but being able to out-perform that with a highly ethical and sustainable fund – we think we've probably got the highest bar when it comes to ethics and sustainability out of any New Zealand-based fund," Mr Hall says.
Tahito is one of nine retail funds offered by Clarity Funds Management, and it is also available through Select Wealth, and InvestNow.
