Maori adoptions offer lessons for all

Māori Party co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer says any revised adoption law to allow Māori to care for their own.
Justice Minister Kris Faafoi has released a discussion document on changes to the 66-year old law.
Ms Ngarewa-Packer says Māori can show the way with their traditional practice of whāngai, which she has experience of.
"A lot of our rangatira at our marae are whāngai and in fact were treated better because of the absolute privilege to manaaki. It was not just feeding, it was to manaaki, to bring to your bosom and add to your ūkaipō," she says.
