Waipareira vax clinic pointer to better service
Waipareira chief executive John Tamihere says the trust’s super-vaccination clinic is a signal it can provide services to the mainstream as well as Māori.
Te Whare Tūhono which opened this morning in Henderson is a partnership with Waitematā DHB.
Mr Tamihere says Waipareira can deliver better services than mainstream agencies because it understands how to work with vulnerable communities and population groups.
He says it has forged a real partnership with Waitematā DHB.
"We are partners in this. We are collaborators. We cooperate together. That is a different relationship. I'm sick and tired of being talked down to and being paid 15 to 20 percent less than a white person who does the same job. We've got to close these gaps and you can only do that if people treat one another with respect and the mutuality of 'I've got something to give here, I've got value, I count, I've got mana, just like you,'" Mr Tamihere says.
Waipareira also launched its Vax to the Max campaign this morning to prepare people for when their time comes to have their shots, which for the general population aged 16 and over is due to start in July.
