COVID test blits finds no new cases
There were no new cases of COVID-19 in today, but Director General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield says he will need to see tomorrow’s results before giving advice on whether New Zealand should lower alert levels.
More than 15,000 swabs were taken yesterday and almost 6000 processed, with the rest to be completed today.
Dr Bloomfield says testing of wastewater in Papatoetoe, where the family affected by the outbreak were living, has also failed to detect any trace of the virus.
He says his advice to cabinet will take into account the health risks, contact-tracing, geographical distributions of the virus, connection to the border, the economic impact of alert levels and in particular their impact on vulnerable communities.
