Biggest abatement lift in two decades
Social Development Minister says more than 80,000 people could take advantage of changes to benefit abatement levels, including 50,000 who have children in their households.
From April 1 people on Jobseeker of Supported Living benefits will be able to earn up to $160 a week before their payments are cut, compared with current limits of $90 and $115 respectively.
She says it’s the biggest increase in the abatement in more than two decades.
"The people we know who will benefit the most are women and potentially people with a disability or heath condition, given that women are more likely to be on sole parent support and also those on a Supported Living Payment who have a health condition or disability so it will make a difference to their household income and their lives," Minister Sepuloni says.
