Six60 adds kapa haka to summer mix

Audiences at Six60’s summer concerts are getting a dose of kapa haka with the ticket.
The chart topping band is bringing a group from each region on stage to add some moves to songs like Sundown and Kia mau ki tō ūkaipō.
Choreographer Pere Wihongi, who has been wrangling the teams, says it’s a great way to normalize te reo Māori and Māori culture for a mass audience.
"It's awesome to see artists like Six60 turn to kapa haka and really incorporate this in their live performances. It doesn't stop there. They're also incorporating instruments in their sound and you've got Te Rarawa descendant Matiu Walters there pushing through with his reo," he says.
Six60 play this Saturday at the Bowl of Brooklands in New Plymouth’s Pukekura Park with guests Dave Dobbyn, Mitch James and Paige.
