Reti the tonic for trashed party
Veteran political activist turned commentator Shane Te Pou says one of the election year winners was an MP who lost his seat.
Shane Reti was ousted by Whangarei voters, but the National Party’s messy leadership changes had left him with a high list position.
He’s now the deputy leader and health spokesperson.
Mr Te Pou says it’s one small glimmer of hope for National after suffering its second-worst political defeat.
"The only problem with our good friend Dr Shane Reti is when he spoke authentically with knowledge, often his leader would blow the credibility out of the water by talking in hyperbole, but I think Shane Reti is a political winner in 2020," he says.
He can’t see National’s leader Judith Collins surviving in the role past 2021.
