Ihumaatao song wins Ruha third Maioha
Rob Ruha has won his third Maioha APRA Silver Scroll award for a song inspired by the Ihumaatao occupation.
Ka Manu linked the resistance in south Auckland with indigenous struggles around the world.
To highlight the theme of unity, he recorded it alongside Bella Kalolo, Maisey Rika, Majic, Ria Hall, Rob Ruha, Seth Haapu, Troy Kingi, and The Witch Dr.
Ruha's previous Maioha awards were for Tiki Tapu in 2014, and Kariri in 2016.
The tohu was presented last night by Hinewehi Mohi in a special online broadcast of the Silver Scroll Awards that included a performance of Ka Mānu by Te Whanganui-a-Tara reggae supergroup Tomorrow People.
The other two finalists were Seth Haapu for his ballad Ūkaipō and Maori music collective Maimoa for pop waiata Whāia.
