Maniapoto teams with councils on community problems


The chair of the Maniapoto Māori Trust Board says the relationship between the board and local councils has lockdown was strengthened significantly during the COIVD-19 pandemic response.
The board met with the mayors of Ōtorohanga, Ruapehu, Waipā and Waitomo last week to discuss collaboration across the rohe.
Keith Ikin says they committed to working more closely together on skills, employment and business support, housing and well-being, and infrastructure.
He says innovative solutions are needed for challenges that have been around for generations.
Waipā Mayor Jim Mylchreest says there are real advantages in delivering services as close to the community as possible, ad the group will also seek central government support and funding to resolve what are multi-generational social problems.
