Waiariki result still in the wind

Former Labour Party president Mike Williams says Tamati Coffey can’t be written off yet as Waiariki MP.
The Māori Party’s Rawiri Waititi had a 415 vote lead in the seat on election night.
Mr Williams says having the Māori Party back in parliament will add diversity to Māori politics, but it’s not a done deal.
"There's a very large number of special votes to be counted in that seat and Tamati hasn't conceded yet, so watch this space – we're a couple of weeks away from seeing the final outcome," he says.
Mr Williams, who ran a polling firm before taking on the president’s role, says unlike in 2017 when Labour’s Māori seat candidates stayed off the party list, the Māori Party was able to run a two for one campaign which could have influenced voter behaviour.
