Whenua Warrior planting mara everywhere

A Māori social enterprise wants every whānau to grow a maara kai.
Whenua Warrior founder Kelly Marie Francis says teaching whanau how to garden is a way to help struggling communities become self-sufficient.
She says the COVID-19 pandemic has shown up the fragility of the current food system.
"We saw with COVID how easily all our systems changed and how easy it was to be dependent on the current food systems but we didn't see the ease for a lot of families. A lot of people were left out in the cold," Ms Francis says.
Whenua Warrior has helped establish hundreds of backyard and community gardens. including the large mara at Ihumātao.
