Tamihere targets youth vote

Māori Party co-leader John Tamihere is counting on an increased youth turnout to bring his party back to parliament.
The party is running a high powered social media campaign, and he hopes that digital outreach will lead to greater participation by 18 to 30 year olds.
"Eighteen to 30 year olds around the world have one of the lowest turnout numbers of any cohort but you will start to see that change. Most of our volunteers are under 30, out on the streets, doing bombing of different intersections, car calling through our major Māori housing estates," he says.
Mr Tamihere says the new leadership of the party is slightly older and represent the first generation that came through kōhanga reo and kura.
