Ngāti Kuia kānuka processor get PGF grant
A project to establish a kānuka processing facility has been boosted by a $700,000 grant from the Provincial Growth Fund’s Whenua Māori fund.
It’s one of more than $50 million of PGF-funded projects at the top of the South island announced today.
The Under-Secretary for Regional Economic Development, Fletcher Tabuteau, says the Kaikaiawaro Charitable Trust will build the facilty on Ngāti Kuia land to use products harvested from tribal whenua.
Other grants include $18 million to develop the 194 kilometre cycling and walking Whale Trail from Picton to Kaikōura, $3.8 million to establish a New Zealand Wine Centre in Blenheim at Nelson/Marlborough Institute of Technology’s Blenheim campus, $10 million to replace a slipway at Port Nelson, $18 million for flood protection projects, and $3 million to Hawk Eye Limited and Apollo Autonomy to develop software enabling unmanned airfreight operations.
