Northland council gets pūtea to tackle flood zone
Northland Regional Council is to get $12 million from the shovel ready infrastructure fund to address the problems that cause repeated flooding.
A huge downpour on Saturday flooded parts of Moerewa, Whangārei and other areas, and slips and washouts closed roads through to the far north.
Regional Infrastructure Minister Shane Jones says it’s a problem the Government saw coming, and it had earmarked funds for flood resilience.
"Our regional council will be required to work with our communities, to work with the Far North District Council and I am going to advise the officials I want mahi to start in that broader Moerewa area," he says.
