Moon shines light on maramataka
A maramataka expert believes schools should take the Māori lunar cycle into account when planning their schedules.
Environmental activist and educator Heeni Hoterene says the study of the moon and stars acknowledges the link Māori have to the environment.
It has been used by Māori to tell them when they will be most productive and when to rest – and that could help tauira.
"With our tamariki, they're fully affected by it, they're more energetic on certain moons, so it's up to us as educators to plan and to make sure that activities are appropriate," Ms Hoterene says.
