Training putea critical in COVID recovery Budget

Jobs, training and hope are what Provincial Economic Development Minister Shane Jones wants to see in Thursday’s Budget.
The New Zealand First MP says over the past couple of months the Government has spent a huge amount of money just keeping the economy afloat, and now it needs to target spending towards the recovery.
Some of that will have to go towards dealing with challenges specific to Māori, which may involve lots of short training courses.
“It’s absolutely essential that we not only capitalise on the zest that Māori have for entrepreneurial endeavour but we enable people to transition out of jobs that have now been hibernated into new jobs and I’m confident that people will be content with the Budget when it comes out with an accent on training and frankly upskilling so the opportunities that arise with a changed COVID-oriented economic development trajectory, they can be seized by our rangatahi,” Mr Jones says.
