With Cabinet today considering moving the COVID-19 alert level down a notch, the Health Ministry is warning New Zealanders not to become complacent.

The ministry revealed just two new cases yesterday, continuing a fortnight of single-digit increases.

One was a household contact of one of the healthcare workers linked to the cluster around the St Margaret’s Hospital & Rest Home in Auckland.

The other is a woman who returned to New Zealand two weeks ago and has been in mandatory quarantine.

The ministry says the two cases were a reminder COVID-19 is a tricky virus and it will keep exploiting any opportunity to infiltrate communities.

It asked people to continue to follow the rules for Alert Level 3 and play it safe.

There have now been 1494 confirmed and probable cases, but only 102 cases are still considered active.

Police say they were informed of almost 500 possible breaches of level-3 rules over the weekend, an improvement on the first weekend after the drop to Level 3.
