Goff positive Ihumatao resolution near
Auckland mayor Phil Goff hopes a draft agreement on Ihumātao will be ready to go to the council next month.
The flag of the Māori King that has flown over the occupation on the land since August was taken down this morning in expectation a resolution is near.
Mr Goff says the Auckland Council has been involved in discussions with the Crown and Kiingitanga to find a long-term resolution to the issues raised at Ihumātao.
Occupiers from the Save Our Unique Landscape group say the land should not be developed because of its heritage value as one of the earliest sites of settlement in Aotearoa.
Mr Goff says the discussions have been positive and there is confidence that a resolution will be reached soon on the ownership and governance of the land.
