Jones says hippie hapu threaten Hicks Bay port plan
Regional Economic Development Shane Jones has expressed his frustration at hippie hapū who want to block a proposal to barge logs out of the East Coast.
The Government is looking at proposals for a port at Hicks bay to open up a so called blue highway as an alternative to the massive investment in roads needed to deal with a flood of logs nearing harvest.
Mr Jones says he gets exasperated with hapū who find a new taniwha or a host of supposed environmental reasons to oppose economic development.
"The environment socially that people are living in needs a boost and infrastructure will open up new wealth opportunities for the landowners, provide new jobs for that community, boost the number of kids in the schools, and quite frankly there are dissident hapu's, I'm not interested in these hippie hapu's, I don't know if they're hapū hippies or hippie hapu's, I've got zero tolerance for them" he says.
