Wāhine take seats on Auckland Māori board
Auckland’s Independent Māori Statutory Board has been returned for another three years with two wāhine added to the table.
Josie Smith and Karen Wilson replace Dennis Kirkwood from Ngāti Tamaoho and James Brown from Ngāi Tai
The other mana whenua representatives, chair David Taipari, Liane Ngamane, Renata Blair, Glenn Wilcox, and Mook Hohneck, retained their seats.
Former MP Tau Henare and Papakura Marae chief executive Tony Kake were returned as mana whenua representatives.
Selection Body chair Martin Cleave says members have the necessary skills to promote issues of significance for the mana whenua and mātāwaka of Tāmaki and ensure Auckland Council acts in accordance with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
