Rātana largest Māori religion
Rātana continues to be the largest Māori religion, with 43,821 people identifying with the haahi in Census 2008.
Ringatū counted 12,336 adherants.
Some 3699 people said they followed Māori religions, beliefs and philosophies without specifying a denomination, and 1194 said they were followers of Paimārire.
Destiny Church had 1722 admitted followers.
More than 2 million New Zealanders or 48.2 percent of the population said they have no religion compared with 41.9 percent in the 2013 Census.
Stats NZ census general manager Kathy Connolly says the latest result supports an increasing trend in the number of people reporting no religion.
The largest religious denomination was Anglican with almost 314,000 people, followed by 307,000 people who said they were Christian with no denomination specified, 295,000 people said they were Roman Catholic and 173,000 people said just Catholic, and Presbyterians accounted for 221,000 people.
Figures of how many Māori follow those mainstream religions is not currently available.
