Te Kākano harvests waiata awards
Te Kākano, the group behind the te reo Māori album of the same name, were the big winners at this year's Waiata Māori Music Awards.
The album won Best Māori Traditional Album, the group which includes Pere Wihongi, Mere Arihi Pipi-Takoko, Makaira Berry and Hamiora Tuari were judged Best Māori Pop Artists and Wihongi's Tōrea won the Best Song tohu.
Wihongi also won the best Māori solo artist category, and the song Kawea by his other band Maimoa won Radio Airplay Song of the Year.
Waikato-Tainui musician Amba Holly has won Best Māori Female Solo Artist award for the third time and was also judged best Māori songwriter.
