Jolly buy boosts Tūwharetoa stake in lake

Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board has teamed up with one of the largest tourism operators on Lake Taupō in a move to bolster its strong commercial and tourism presence on the lake.
Chief executive Topia Rameka says the board wants to have a stronger authentic indigenous offering on Lake Taupō, as well as provide more employment opportunities for Tūwharetoa people.
The family-run Chris Jolly Outdoors started in 1980 and now offers scenic cruises, private charters, corporate functions, and hunting and fishing trips.
Chief executive Simon Jolly says its 30 staff includes some of the region’s most experienced guides.
In recent years the company has focused on promoting Maori culture as part of its tourism experience.
