Ngāti Porou voice Ken Eruera silenced

One of the voices that helped find Radio Ngāti Porou a worldwide audience for its grassroots rugby commentaries has been silenced.
Ken Eruera died yesterday and has been taken to Hiruharama Marae. His funeral service will be at 11 am Thursday.
During East Coast Rugby's successful 2012 challenge for the Meads Cup, Mr Eruera and fellow announcer Kahu Waitoa became familiar to tens of thousands of listeners not just around the East Coast but also to Ngāti Porou living outside the rohe who leapt on the internet to hear their commentaries.
For the week leading up to and following the final of the Meads Cup, the station had more than 40,000 'Naatis' engaging, commenting or viewing their Facebook postings about the finals and the Ngāti Porou East Coast team.
Ken Eruera was a regular sports contributor on Radio Waatea's te reo Māori current affairs programme Manako. Producer of the show Vaughan Jackson says he will miss Ken and the many sports debates they had. He says he had become more than just a contributor he was whanau.
