Prime spot to learn in reshuffle
The chair of Labour's kaunihera Māori says the elevation of Willow Jean Prime to the role of parliamentary private secretary to Local Government Minister Nanaia Mahuta is a good step.
Parliamentary private secretaries are members of parliament who may support the Minister by building relationships with relevant communities, representing the Minister at public events, delivering speeches on occasions when the Minister is not available, and assisting with administrative matters.
Rudy Taylor says Ms Prime was on the Far North District Council before entering parliament as a list MP.
"So she knows some of the ropes and she appreciates she has a job that continues with her skills. She’s happy she’s learning a lot in the time she’s been in Government and no doubt she will shine," he says..
Peeni Henare picking up the Civil Defence portfolio in last week's reshuffle will also boost his profile and help with the story Labour puts to Māori voters at next year's election.
