Party’s destiny wider than church

The campaign manager for the new Coalition New Zealand Party is trying to distance it from Destiny Church.
The party is headed by Hannah Tamaki, wife of Destiny's leader Brian Tamaki, but Jevan Goulter says it wants to reach a much wider group of voters.
He says the Destiny connection has already generated a lot of publicity, it's party and not church members who will set policy.
"We are going out, we are going out and about into other sectors of the community or society and saying 'hey, this is something you guys might like to be involved in.' We have also had a huge outpour of support from people outside Destiny Church who have said we want to join this party, we want to help with policies on different areas that are applicable to them," he says.
Jevan Goulter says last weekend's event in which Brian Tamaki apologised to the gay community for past statements he has made about homosexuality, was something the self-styled bishop has wanted to do for a while, rather than being about trying to build support for Coalition New Zealand.
